About Christine

Hello, my name is Christine Livingston. I'm grateful for this opportunity to share a few facts about my life and practice.

A graduate of William Jessup University, I have completed a Bachelor of Science degree with a double major in theology and psychology. I continued on to pursue studies at Western Seminary, earning a Master's degree in Marital and Family Therapy. At both Universities my studies united an understanding of neurobiology and brain function with a Biblical world view. It is from this integrated perspective that I provide psychotherapy.

I am also a hospital chaplain, having completed an extensive pastoral care residency at the University of California at Davis Medical Center in Sacramento. My clinical and academic training have provided me with exposure to many difficult situations where pain, grief, trauma and berevement are common to people of all faiths, as well as those who do not embrace a particular faith. I strive to meet my clients and patients 'where they are,' respecting the unique aspects of each person's journey.

Personally, my immediate family consists of my husband of twenty years, my daughter and son and grandson. I came to experience a relationship with Christ rather late in life at the age of forty, and thus have experiential insight of what it is like personally to live both with and without faith in one's life.

I consider it a great privilege to be allowed access into a client's life, holding the therapeutic relationship as a sacred trust. Confidentiality is of the utmost importance, as is respecting the individuality of each client. As a therapist I offer to walk side by side with my clients as they share their unique story and embark on a healing journey. H ope and a redemptive presence are offered when it is not possible for my clients to access these vital life components for themselves.

In addition to working with depression, anxiety, life transitions and and family issues, my areas of particular focus include couples therapy, complex bereavement, trauma, and therapy for adult survivors of spousal and childhood abuse, including that which has been sexual.
I am trained in the use of EMDR and CRM, effective research based techniques, particularly useful in the areas of trauma and PTSD .
As a trained Emotionally Focused Couples Therapist , I approach couples work from a developmental and adult attachment perspective .

A life long learner committed to providing the best clinical care possible , I regularly attend professional seminars and workshops to further my education and enhance the best standard of care in therapeutic practice.
I am registered with the State of California as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist # 90188.
